Let's talk about an amazing project
In almost every school we visit we are told that there are teenagers in that school, or in that town, at risk of serious mental health crises, and the school does not have access to fast crisis intervention.
We want to change that by setting up and running Ireland's FIRST mobile crisis counselling centre for at-risk teenagers.
Ireland’s first mobile youth crisis counselling service
Our special project this year is to raise €150,000 to purchase and fund Ireland’s first free mobile youth crisis counselling service. This would be an amazing opportunity for your company to be involved with a new, innovative, social project that will bring immediate benefits to young people and their families around Ireland.
When we visit schools and colleges one of the most frequent concerns raised by teachers and management is the availability of mental health services for referral. Most teachers are not trained in mental health awareness techniques and school guidance counsellors are often over-stretched particularly around exam time which is a high risk mental health period especially amongst Leaving Cert students.
Our special project for 2020 has four steps so could be split across multiple sponsors or might suit a single sponsor looking to make a significant contribution to youth mental health in Ireland.

Purchase van for conversion
We intend to purchase a large van with an extended wheelbase similar to the one in the photo. These are available for around €65,000.
Convert it into a mobile crisis counselling centre
Use a specialist conversion firm such as Total Van Solutions in Belfast to convert the van with office fittings and sound-proofing. This is estimated at €15,000.
Staff it with trained crisis counsellors
Mostly we will be able to access volunteer counsellors and therapists in the local area where the counselling centre travels to, but in urgent cases or emergencies then we will be able to staff the vehicle with our own trained crisis counsellors. We estimate the cost at €50,000 per annum.
Be a rapid response unit to provide fast support to teenagers at high risk of suicide
The counselling resource centre is mobile and so will be able to go to schools and colleges as part of our Schools Programme to provide immediate on-site support. However the centre can also be able to respond very quickly to support schools or local communities were there is a teenager in crisis. We estimate the annual running costs at around €20,000 including fuel, insurance and servicing.
What is the proposal?
Youth Suicide Prevention Ireland is looking to form social partnerships with organisations that can see the opportunities in becoming involved with a project that will bring immediate benefits to young people and their families around Ireland. Your organisation can become a premier sponsor of Ireland's FIRST mobile Youth Crisis Counselling Service.
Working with us can provide long-term public relations benefits as well as opportunities for corporate philanthropy and social responsibility which will bring immediate improvements to youth mental health in Ireland and even help save young lives.
